Rosedale House History
Rosedale House was built in 1862 by Guinness Master brewer "Penny" as his family home. It is a gracious double fronted Georgian house with parkland surroundings and beautiful gardens. The gardens were designed by David Moore, a close friend of the Plunkett family who lived in Rosedale when it was first built. Moore was curator of the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. He called upon the owners of large estates and gardens in Ireland to cultivate rare exotic plant varieties not expected to thrive in Glasnevin. The planting of Rosedale House, Headfort and Fota Island attest to this.
